Food and Drink

You will never be short of somewhere to eat and drink in Lagos. The town centre has restaurants, cafés and bars on every street and square. All cuisines can be found; with Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, Japanese, and Portuguese restaurants tempting diners with displays of fresh fish in their chilled cabinets. There are cafés galore with delicious cakes (you must try pasteis de nata) or, if you’re not to be tempted, just a coffee or cool drink. Many bars are open until 2 am in the busier months with several open later.

The Marina also has a good selection of bars and restaurants with the bonus of being able to admire the boats. Our favourite bar on the marina is Amuras.

There are some good beach restaurants along Meia Praia (Lindas Bar,  Bahia Beach Bar & Gaviotas ); several are open all year round, although they may not stay open as late during the winter. Nothing can beat sitting at one of them, with a glass of wine, good food and a stunning view across the sweeping bay of Lagos. There is also a restaurant on the cliff top above Praia do Camilo; the view is fantastic and the food is good (it’s very popular with the locals which is always a good sign).

Every area of the town has local restaurants, so wherever you are staying there is likely to be a choice of eateries close to hand. For instance, we have an excellent cafe (Maria Gulosa), several restaurants (we love O Alberto) and a barbequed chicken restaurant/takeaway all just a few minutes walk away.

The biggest ‘problem’ is going to be where to choose!
